Fields Model - Week 3

Field believes that screen plays and films have three acts, the first act is usually about 20 to 30 pages and sets the story up for the reader/viewer. Act 1 is intended to introduce characters and important points for the rest of the story.

I watched the first few minutes of the first Harry Potter movie in order to put this theory to the test and I believe it is true to an extent. We get the general sense that Harry is an orphan and has some secrets to hide. We then learn that he has magical powers on the families trip to the zoo. These are two very important parts of the multi-part series, however, the first 10 minutes are not a great enough example as to what happens in the film. If we continue on another 10 minutes we see letters from Hogwarts arriving and things begin to come together. We gain a general understanding that Harry Potter is a gifted child whom is off to learn how to use his powers within the first 10 to 20 minutes of the film which is ultimately what the whole series is about. All in all, I believe that Fields model applies to every screenplay, in some cases the acts are quicker then other but all have 3 acts.
